Somewhere along the way, I stopped seeing these simply as “wallets.”

The change didn't happen overnight. It came from the quiet, repetitive work—the countless hours spent tracing historical patterns, studying the techniques of master saddlers and cordwainers, and realizing that what I was doing was less about mass production and more about continuing a deep-rooted tradition. The leather itself carries this history; it’s an ancient material, essential to humanity for millennia. What I make now… feels less like a product, and more like art you can carry, rooted in that same time-honored connection between a craftsperson and their tools.

The Art of the Hide

Every piece begins its life as a raw, blank side of vegetable-tanned leather. This isn't just any material—it's a stiff, natural canvas, meticulously prepared to hold intricate detail. This is where the true artistry takes place:

• The Intentional Cut: Every cut and line is a precise commitment. The initial shape is just the beginning.

• The Bevel and Mold: Using specialized tools, I bevel the edges to soften them, then case (or dampen) the leather to a specific moisture content. This is the crucial moment when the material becomes pliable enough to be sculpted.

• The Tooling and Carving: With a collection of mallets and small, shaped steel stamps, I meticulously tool the surface, one strike at a time. This process pushes the fibers, creating a permanent, three-dimensional texture—a carved landscape that will last a lifetime.

• The Stroke of Dye: Finally, the color is applied. Whether it’s a rich, hand-rubbed patina or a vibrant solid hue, every stroke of the dye is intentional, enhancing the texture and bringing the carved design to life.

Each piece starts as a raw hide—a blank slate—and ends up holding not just your cards and cash, but a bit of me in it.
